De challenge-test (ook wel Preservative Efficacy Test of PET genoemd) controleert de effectiviteit van het conserveringssysteem van uw cosmetische product. Fabrikanten moeten ervoor zorgen dat micro-organismen die bij normaal gebruik in het product terechtkomen de veiligheid of kwaliteit ervan niet negatief beïnvloeden. Dit wordt aangetoond met de challenge-test, uitgevoerd volgens ISO 11930:2019 of USP <51>.
