De pleistertest bepaalt of een cosmetisch product irritatie van de huid veroorzaakt — hij beoordeelt het huidirritatiepotentieel van uw eindproduct. Ongeveer 0,2 g/ml product wordt aangebracht op de intacte huid van de rug of de arm van volwassen proefpersonen en gedurende 48 uur onder een occlusieve of semi-occlusieve pleister gehouden. Leave-on producten worden onverdund getest, rinse-off producten worden verdund. De huidreacties worden vervolgens 1 uur en 24 uur na verwijdering van de pleister afgelezen.
