About this test

Patch Test

The purpose of the patch test is to determine whether a cosmetic product causes irritation on the skin — it assesses the skin-irritation potential of your finished product. Approximately 0.2 g/ml of product is applied to the intact skin of the back or arm of adult subjects and kept under an occlusive or semi-occlusive patch for 48 hours. Leave-on products are tested undiluted, while rinse-off products are diluted. Skin reactions are then read 1 hour and 24 hours after the patch is removed.
